Tickets go on Sale for Legacy Fight Alliance 180 Event in Broadbent Arena
Louisville native Eddie Donaldson brings in city’s largest ever MMA event
LOUISVILLE, KY— A city with one of the richest sporting traditions in America will host another growing sport this spring when the Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) brings its tour to Broadbent Arena. The full card of fights will take over the 6,600-seat venue on March 29th.
It’s the latest in a series of high-profile events organized by Louisville native Eddie Donaldson, who brought in a landmark mural of Muhammad Ali and multiple art exhibitions since returning to his hometown last year. After connecting with the people behind LFA during an event in Owensboro, Donaldson immediately began planning to bring the organization to Louisville.
“Louisville is a world-class city and deserves a wide range of world-class events,” Donaldson said. “I’m excited to grow Louisville’s footprint in MMA and give people from around the region a chance to experience the world’s fastest-growing sport firsthand.”
Louisville, long known as a hotbed of horse racing and college basketball, also has a deep history in fighting sports. The city was home to Muhammad Ali and three other heavyweight boxing champions, and a recent Netflix docuseries featured the city’s wrestling league. But a growing number of mixed martial arts gyms in the city is evidence that MMA is taking hold as well.
“We love opening up new markets, and we’re excited to bring MMA to Kentucky’s largest city,” said LFA President Sven Bean. “We know a city with this kind of tradition will embrace our sport as well, and we can’t wait to meet our new fans.”
Since it was formed by a merger of two leagues in 2017, LFA has become the number one mixed martial arts developmental organization in the world. More than 260 LFA fighters have moved up to the UFC, the sport’s top level. The organization has also recently expanded to markets beyond the U.S.
“The fact that LFA will hold events in both California and Brazil in the three weeks before coming to Louisville shows the global appeal of MMA,” said David S. Beck, President and CEO of Kentucky Venues. “It’s a perfect fit for Broadbent Arena at the Kentucky Exposition Center, and a great example of the range of events we host at our facilities.”
