Kentucky Exposition Center Unveils New Main Entrance: Expanded Lanes, New Technology and Improved Wayfinding

After years of planning, the Kentucky Exposition Center completed the long-awaited main gate renovation this month and will be completed in August. The project is funded through the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board and expanded the main entrance off of Phillips Lane from eight lanes to ten lanes increasing throughput by at least 25 percent.

“Expanding and improving our main entrance will improve the customer experience from the moment they visit our property. We want to thank the Kentucky General Assembly and the Agriculture Development Board for their support and recognizing the importance of this facility to the Commonwealth,” said David S. Beck, President and CEO of Kentucky Venues.

In addition to expanding the number of lanes, the gate one construction project included:

• Enhanced wayfinding via dedicated signage.
• Latest technology in digital signage including three 20ft. long signs to inform and direct visitors.
• Accepting of digital payments and more payment options for customers.

The plans for the gate were developed after a six-month traffic study that took place during the busiest months, including the Kentucky State Fair, at the expo center. The current gates are more than 50 years old and overdue for an update. The main entrance renovation cost $5 million and the funds were approved by the Kentucky General Assembly through the state’s Agriculture Development Board.
